Online Accessibility and Compliant Accessible Sites

Accessibility Explained

The phrase Online Accessibility means many different things to different people. The common misperception is that accessibility is solely about developing for people with disabilities however it spans much further than that.

Accessibility is about reaching the widest audience possible, disability is a big part of acheiving accessibility but it also covers, for example, the level of language used in your written content through to the type and version of your internet browser as well as every conceivable issue in-between.

By adhering to standards you are ensuring that you are not alienating any potential user out there via technology or usability. A user lost is a potential customer lost that might just be searching for your exact service. Today, disabled people in the UK account for 8.7 million of the population, this is a sizeable proporation that should not be ignored.

Creating an Accessible Website

True Accessibility

Creating a truely accessible site is an art rather than a science. You can follow the letter of the law and create a technically compliant site but take it to a user with visual or cognitive impairments and their visiting experience could still be next to useless.

Over the years I have seen first-hand, people with disabilities use software and inparticular websites and I have become accustom to how they use and expect to use certain functionality. The secret is not just to think is this site technically compliant? but is the user going to receive the desired outcome of the site/page and successful use and navigate the site to this affect.

Acheiving this goal takes much more than just technical knowledge but also knowledge of how to use the internet as a media for acheiving your websites objectives/message.

We provide a service from start to finish, providing advice to you the consumer as well as producing a superior accessible website that will be worth the investment.

Accessibility Audit

If you are unsure whether or not your site is compliant, we can provide you will consultation or a detailed report of the good and bad points of your site with action points to make your site acheive the various levels.
